A Vintage Palace that takes you back in time!
Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion is one among the many Palaces that dot the Heritage City Mysuru. It is located in the lush green campus of Manasa Gangotri (Mysore University). It was built during 1905 by then Maharaja of Mysuru HH Shri Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar as a residence for Princess Jayalakshmi Ammanni. This palace was handed over to the University of Mysuru and was renovated during 2006. Jayalakshmi Vilas Palace currently houses 3 museums – The Folklore Museum, The Archaeology Museum and the General Museum. With over 6,500 exhibits, it houses Asia’s largest collection of folk art exhibits. It has articles pertaining to regional folk, vintage tools, articles used by the Royal Family, stone sculptures, paintings etc. A visit to the Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion will certainly transport you back in time!
