Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Central Government, Union Ministry of Tourism has planned to develop Mysuru city as a full-fledged tourist spot. Pratap Simha, MP of Mysuru-Kodagu revealed this during a press conference which was held recently.
Under the scheme of the Union Tourism Ministry, four to five districts had made efforts to tap the benefit, but finally only Mysuru city in Mysuru district and Hampi in Vijayanagar district were selected. As is the procedure, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared followed by technical and administrative approvals to go ahead.
Yearlong exhibition at exhibition grounds:
Addressing the media, the MP also said that there is a plan to conduct a year-long exhibition at the exhibition grounds in order to encourage cottage industries, handicrafts, silk and eponymous Channapatna toy industries. It is expected to be developed as a permanent shopping hub for tourists. The intention behind setting up a permanent exhibition is to keep the exhibition grounds abuzz with activities throughout the year rather than hosting the exhibition only during Dasara.
What is the Swadesh Darshan scheme?:
Swadesh Darshan Scheme is a Central Sector scheme launched in 2014-15 by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India for the integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits. The scheme aims to promote, develop and harness the potential of tourism in India. Under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, the Ministry of Tourism provides Central Financial Assistance – CFA to State Governments, Union Territory Administrations for the infrastructure development of circuits.
