Did you know that Mysore has a sister city in the USA? Yes. Namma Mysuru has a sister city called Cincinnati which is situated in the USA. This sister city agreement facilitates cultural exchange and bonding between both the cities. The sister city relationship was inaugurated on July 11, 2012 by Ambassador Nirupama Rao and then Member of Parliament Mr. Vishwanath in Cincinnati with a huge gala that followed at Devou Park.
What is a Sister City?:
Sister City is a concept developed by Sister Cities International which was created at President Eisenhower’s 1956 White House summit. Under this programme, Sister Cities International creates partnerships between cities to foster understanding and goodwill between a U.S. city and an international city built on a rich history of global cities creating bonds.
The only city in India:
Sister cities of Cincinnati are Liuzhou (China), Munich (Germany), New Taipei City (Taiwan), Kharkiv (Ukraine), Nancy (France), Gifu (Japan), Amman (Jordan), Harare (Zimbabwe) and Mysore (India). It can be noted that Mysore is the only Indian city which is in the list of Cincinnati’s sister cities.
Under this programme, both the cities exchange resources, conduct events and communicate on a regular basis to facilitate the overall development and global friendship.
