Mysuru is a city of ornate circles and roundabouts. There are plenty of circles in Mysuru which have been formed in order to streamline the traffic flow. Though all of these circles have particular names, they are well-known by their colloquial names and not by their official names. Here is some interesting information regarding a few of those circles.
Ballal Circle aka Ashoka Circle
Ballal Hotel is familiar among the old Mysuru people. Hotel Ballal was located at Krishnamurthypuram and was famous for authentic South Indian delicacies. The hotel doesn’t exist anymore but the circle is popularly known as Ballal Circle since ages though its official name is Ashoka Circle.
Akashavani Circle aka Ta Ra Su Circle
T.R.Subba Rao, popularly known as Ta Ra Su is among the most famous Kannada writers. He has written masterpieces such as Durgastamana, Chandavalliya Thota etc. Though the circle near Akashavani Junction is named after him, it is popularly known as Akashavani Circle.
Metropole Circle aka Field Marshal K.M.Cariappa Circle
Near Metropole is the Field Marshal K.M.Cariappa Circle. This circle has been named after Field Marshal K.M.Cariappa who was the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. There is also a statue of him in this circle as a mark of respect. However, it is popularly known as Metropole Circle.
LIC Circle aka T.N.Narasimhamurthy Circle
The Circle on the Bengaluru Road near LIC Head Office is seldom called by its name T.N.Narasimhamurthy Circle. T.N.Narasimhamurthy was an MLC who lived near Bannimantap, Mysore. The circle is popularly called LIC Circle or Millennium Circle.
Vijaya Bank Circle aka S.Nijalingappa Circle
S.Nijalingappa is the former Chief Minister of Karnataka. The circle in Kuvempunagar has been renamed after him. But it is still called Vijaya Bank Circle as Vijaya Bank is the most prominent landmark in that area
