Dasara is that time of the year when lakhs of guests visit Mysuru from across the globe. After Dasara comes winter. Winter is a red carpet welcome to many exotic species of birds. Avian beauties flock to the Southern part of Karnataka, which hosts these birds for a period of a few months. This indicates the beginning of Winter in the Old Mysuru region.
Why do birds migrate?
Bird migration / Avian migration is a natural process where birds change their habitat for a particular period of time due to various reasons such as climate change, food availability etc. When they find it difficult to survive in their home country during specific weather conditions, they search for a suitable environment and migrate to that place. After a few months, they fly back to their original habitats.
This is the snowfall season in European Countries. Hence birds find it difficult to survive there. Around 50-60 species of birds migrate to Old Mysuru region during the period of October to January. Plenty of bird enthusiasts, photographers throng to lakes to capture the beauty of these exotic birds which come all the way from Europe.
