Heritage City Mysuru is a home for many heritage temples and monuments which stand still amongst us as a mark of our glorious history. One among such places is The Venugopalaswamy temple, located near the KRS backwaters. This temple was constructed in the Hoysala Style of Architecture during the 12th century in the village of Kannambadi. It has a history according to which, a disaster struck the village when Krishna Raja Sagara Dam was overflowed. As a result of this calamity, the whole village was submerged along with the temple.
Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar ordered the construction of a new village called Hosa Kannambadi. And in the year 2000, the entire temple resurfaced when water levels in the reservoir dropped. The temple remained intact despite being submerged underwater for 70 long years. Khodays Foundation successfully relocated the temple in 2011. The new temple majorly comprises old stones from the ancient temple. It is polished well to look like a new one. A replica of the stone chariot in Hampi is also displayed here. The idol of Krishna playing the flute as a cow herd is worshipped here as Venugopala Swamy.
